Seeing the alarming increase in the number of people suffering from obesity, Center for Disease Control and Prevention has suggested that every adult should exercise for a minimum of 150 minutes on weekly basis. For children, this recommendation is reduced to an hour on daily basis. In this fast paced world, it becomes difficult for both children as well as adults to follow this routine. Luckily, the advent of video game systems, even losing weight has become easy and fun. Out of a number of gaming platforms, Nintendo Wii is one that has allowed the users to burn fat along with enjoying games, thereby making working out a complete fun and enjoyable activity.

Further in this article, I have discussed some main games for Nintendo Wii that stand out best among the others.

Diet Foods: Planning an Effective Menu

ByAce Abbey

When it comes to losing weight, working out is the easy part. What really challenges those who likely struggle with issues at the dinner table to begin with is planning a menu that is low in calories, healthy, and is easy to stick with. You can starve yourself for a few days, but eventually your natural impulses are going to take over. You have to find diet foods you like that you can incorporate into your daily lifestyle for as long as it takes to lose the weight (and then beyond). To say this is a challenge is an understatement, which is why so many people have a terrible time losing weight. Here, however, are some tips that can help you succeed.

Plan Your Calories

The most important part of designing an effective weight loss menu is determining how many calories you need to cut in order to create a deficit. There are several web sites you can visit to get an approximate number. These calculators will take into account your weight, sex, activity level, and age to determine how many calories you can consume each day and still lose weight. Don't get attached to that number, however. Use it for a week or two and re-evaluate. You may need to cut more from the plan, increase your exercise, or may even find that you can add some back in.

Reading and Weighing

Labels and a kitchen scale will become your best friends when trying to find diet foods that fit into your meal plan. An important component of any good weight loss plan is fresh food. This means fresh chicken, beef, vegetables, and fruits. These don't usually come in set serving sizes that you can easily dial into your plan. You'll need to weigh them so you know exactly how many calories you're taking in. If you're eating something such as fresh fruit that doesn't come with a label, you can look up the calorie information online.

Don't Deprive Yourself

Don't get the wrong idea when it comes to "diet foods". While you may not be able to gorge yourself on fried chicken and ice cream every day and meet your caloric deficit, there's no need to cut everything enjoyable out of your plan. Find better ways to make your favorite meals. Even if you don't want to make that kind of change, you can budget ways to still enjoy the dinners you love. Eat less food earlier in the day or cut your portions back. While there's something to be said for finding healthier alternatives, the main goal is to cut calories. If you can find a way to do that and still enjoy the meals you love, more power to you.

Losing weight can happen for you if you eat the right kind of diet foods for your lifestyle. For more information, go to:

The Naturally Slender Eating Strategy

What you think really does proceed what you do and if you want to change what you do you must first change how you think. The Weight Loss Registry keeps track of people who have lost about 30 lbs. and have kept it off for a year. It is a great research project to learn what thin people do and think. Isn't everything we do started by thinking a thought? Image for a moment that you are in a bakery and right before you are your favorite things, and you say OK, I will have it just this once. Now what do you think you are going to do if that is your thought, looking at your favorite thing? Or, how about the office goodies you walk by and say, "Oh, I will just have a couple of M&M's, that won't hurt". First comes the thought, and then comes the hand. So what you think really precedes what you do and if you want to change what you do, you must first change how you think.

Step 1. Imagine a hypothetical future situation when something makes you think about food. Maybe it is in a situation where you see food, smell food, perhaps you look at your watch and it is 12 o'clock and it is time for launch or any kind of situation, whether it is appropriate or inappropriate, that makes you think of food. Let the answers that come to mind be the information that will help you in the following steps. If 12 o'clock makes you think of food, I want you to check in by putting your hands on your stomach. Make sure your hands are in the right location, just below the ribcage, mid-torso. Tilt your head down slightly, now check in as to how your stomach feels, how hungry are you? Measure against the hunger scale, 0, being falling down famine, and 10 is feeling stuffed like a Christmas Turkey.

Step 2. Go to thinking about, what would feel good in your stomach right now. Its noon and you are as hungry as you are and listen to your inner voice, and it says, "What would feel good in my stomach right now". Now, you are going to answer this question by tilting your head back, looking above eye level and visualize the portion of that which you are considering eating. Maybe the food you are seeing is something right in front of you, or that you have seen in a restaurant, or something you have fixed at home, whatever it is just see it there. Now, this is important. I want you to do a trial run before you eat anything. You do this by putting your hands on your stomach again, and now you are going to imagine eating what you just saw. That's right, you are going to get a little taste in your mouth, you are going to feel it go down, and you're going to imagine what it feels like in your stomach over time. How does it feel after one hour, after two hours, after three hours? What's that like? Do you like the way it feels over time? The point is that the average evening meal is eaten in 7 minutes while it sits in your stomach for hours. So, just think about what it feels like. Think how it will feel right after dinner, or when you go to bed, and in the morning having eaten this the night before. This food will stay with you. Now ask yourself if you like that feeling? Do you like feeling stuffed, tired, indigestion and listlessness. At this point you might imagine instead of eating the granda burrito, to try to imagine eating a salad and soup instead and think how this would feel. Which one of these options makes you feel the best over time? When you pick the right thing you have just maximized your best feeling over time. You have chosen the best pleasure over time. You get to choose the thing that makes you feel the best.

The natural slender eating strategy is to go for the thing that will make me feel the best over time. That is what you want. You want the thing that will sit just right for me.

Review the situations when you think about food

- You notice how hungry you are, when you smell, see, hear food or if it is the time on the clock.

- You check in. You put your hands on your stomach, tilt your head down slightly, how hungry are you right now. Am I a 0, 1, 2, 10?

- You ask yourself what would feel good in my stomach right now. You then look up and visualize a portion of something you want to eat. Imagine eating it.

- Now how does it feel in your stomach over time?

Simple But NOT EASY Weight Loss

Many of us want to reveal our "hidden six pack" before the summer season and I have the simple formula to achieve just that.

It is a simple two part process:

1) cut back your caloric intake by 500 calories a day. This is a minuscule amount of calories that adds up to a pound a week. This means portion control and avoiding a heaping dessert. You can still eat sweets etc. but just don't over eat. Eating at a slower pace is one simple trick to allow your brain to catch up to your stomach, letting you know that you are full.

2) This second step is crucial to losing the unwanted pounds. It involves the dreaded EXERCISE. Do not dismay. The exercise involved is minimal but has phenomenal results! The program involves a treadmill and a stopwatch. Most treadmills have timers attached to them so that makes it easy to track our progress. Depending on your current health status, start out by setting the treadmill at an incline of 8 and a speed of 4. Keep your hands on the rails for one minute then remove your hands for one minute. Do this for a total of ten minutes then raise the incline to 10 and lower the speed to 3. Repeat the one minute on and one minute off routine for another ten minutes then drop the incline down to 4 and the speed to 2. Finish the last ten minutes with the same one minute on one minute off program until you reach a total of 30 minutes. Congratulations! You have just spent 30 minutes on the treadmill and burned a good amount of calories. Once this becomes too easy for you, move on to the next, more advanced program.

The more advanced program involves setting the incline at 6 and the speed at 6. The trick here is that you let the treadmill run for 30 seconds with your feet on either side of the track. Then, you jump onto the track and run for 30 seconds then jump off for 30seconds. Repeat this process for ten minutes then bump up the incline to 10 and the speed down to 3 for another series of 30 seconds on and off for the next ten minutes. You will feel like stopping at about 15 minutes BUT DON'T DO IT! The final ten minutes involves dropping the incline down to zero and increasing the speed to as high as it will allow without stopping. This is about 9 for me because of my 250lbs but it may be 10 or more for you.

I have used the above technique, alternating the first and second versions every other day, to lose 10 pounds in a single week! There is a HUGE CAVEAT however! Burning all of these calories WILL MAKE YOU HUNGRY! Do Not give in to this hunger or you will undo all the progress you are making. Find a good green drink to curb your hunger and enable your body to adjust to the new level of health that you have created.

This is a simple, but NOT easy, way to lose weight quickly, safely and permanently IF you don't give in to the cravings you WILL experience. All the best and know that YOU CAN DO IT!

Finding your Hidden Six Pack is simple... but not easy. Dr John DeWitt has over 12 years of professional football experience and has gone on to become a healthcare professional. He has used all of the above techniques and is a sports nutrition specialist as well. Go to to get more information about finding the right weight loss program for you.

Lap-Band Surgery: Advantages and Disadvantages

Lap-Band surgery is proving to be a safe and effective treatment for those obese people who have made umpteen futile attempts of shedding those extra pounds despite taking lower-calorie, low-fat diets and exercising daily.

Also called laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB), Lap-Band is the second most commonly performed weight loss surgery, after gastric bypass.

Back in 2001, America's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sanctioned use of gastric banding for weight-loss surgery for severely obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) of at least 40 or a BMI of at least 35 with one or more health conditions related to their weight, such as heart disease or diabetes.

In February 2011, the US health watchdog expanded its approval to include obese individuals with Body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more and who also have an existing obesity-related medical problem.

Surgical Overview
Lap-Band is a reversible and the least invasive weight loss procedure, in which an adjustable silicone band is placed around the upper part of the stomach to separate it from the lower part.

The newly created small stomach pouch can hold little amount of food at one time, which helps in restricting the food intake and making patients feel full sooner.

During the surgery, a bariatric expert makes 2 to 5 small incisions in your abdomen, and through one of these openings inserts a tiny camera (laparoscope) in your belly which allows the surgeon to see inside the stomach on a video monitor.

Through other openings, the surgeon inserts tiny surgical instruments place a band around the upper part of your stomach, dividing it into two parts. The smaller upper pouch fills up quickly, and you feel full after taking in just a small amount of food.

The band is connected by tubing to an access port which is fixed right beneath the skin of the abdomen during surgery.

Gastric banding patients can expect a loss of up to 40 percent of their excess weight. It is a restrictive form of bariatric surgery and is performed under general anesthesia. The operation may take only 30 to 60 minutes if done by a skilled and experienced surgeon.

Lap-Band is a much safer than other weight loss procedures like gastric bypass and gastric sleeve. As well, it carries fewer risks and complications.

One of the biggest benefits Lap-Band surgery offers over other forms of bariatric surgery is that it can be reversed if necessary. It can also be removed completely.
Another advantage is that the band is adjustable, allowing the addition of fluid that will tighten the band. Likewise, fluid can be removed to allow normal eating.
No cutting or stapling, no blood loss, and shorter hospital stay are other benefits.
Lap-Band patients experience less post-surgery pain, recover more quickly, and are able to return to normal physical activities sooner in comparison to other
It offers significant weight loss.

Risks and Complications
Band slippage may occur, and the small stomach pouch may become too enlarged, calling for reoperation.
Erosion of band into the stomach is a possibility.
Leakage in lap band balloon or within the Lap-Band tube connection can occur.
An infection may develop either in the port area or in the abdomen.
Injury to intestines or other organs during the surgery is also a possibility
Scarring inside the belly can lead to an obstruction in your bowel.
A substandard and inexperienced may not be able to tighten or loosen the band, and you require another operation to fix this problem.
Nausea, vomiting, constipation can occur following the surgery, necessitating loosening of the band.
Extremely rare, but death can occur following the Lap-Band surgery. The risk of death due to the surgery is about one in 2,000.

Obese people who wish to undergo weight loss surgery but are unable to afford in their native countries can get the surgery done in Mexico at the skilled hands of Dr Castaneda Bariatric Surgeon who offers quality weight loss procedures at fairly less prices.

ByNate Atkins

Weight loss for a lot of us is can be a very frustrating process, especially when you try your best to eat well, exercise and still don't see much progress. What is Belviq?

Belviq is more or less an appetite suppressant that works to kill your hunger and cravings that often lead to unhealthy eating through the activation of brain receptors that control the serotonin levels within the body. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that triggers feelings of being full and satisfaction, and also helps to control your mood.

Does Belviq Actually Work?

It also showed that in order for the drug to work properly it should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise plan as well. Studies done on Belviq also show that if you have not seen a reduction of 5% of your weight within 12 weeks that you should no longer take the drug.

Are There Side Effects from Belviq?

The most common side effects shown in participants who took Belviq include effects like: Headaches, Dizziness, Fatigue, Nausea, Dry Mouth and Constipation. On top of these it is also speculated that Belviq has the potential to cause heart valve defects which is why the FDA rejected this drug the first time around.

Whats the Overall Verdict?

Belviq is just another drug that is about to make the drug company a lot of money while delivering once again minimal results with a whole slew of negative side effects and a possibility of serious heart defects. This is one of those products that because the FDA has allowed it people are going to accept it as safe when in reality it is nothing more than a waste of money and a hazard to your health.

If You Really Want To Count Calories Then This Will Help

I know that counting calories is a popular way to lose weight - even though I don't agree with it. What I do agree with is actually cutting down on the number of calories you eat. Now that might seem like the same thing but it isn't and I'll get to why it's different in a little while, because I want to tell you about some interesting news first.

Anne McTiernan from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre ran a 12-month study, with over 120 women, looking at what helped participants to lose more weight. What she found was that women, who kept a food diary over the period of the trial, lost about 6lbs more than people who didn't. Skipping meals was also a significant factor. Those women who skipped meals ended up 8lbs heavier than those who ate regularly.

Those who went out for lunch just once a week ended up 5lbs heavier than those who didn't. The more you eat out the heavier you get - even when you are on a calorie controlled diet.

"For individuals who are trying to lose weight, the No. 1 piece of advice based on these study results would be to keep a food journal to help meet daily calorie goals"

Anne McTiernan, director of the Hutchinson Centre.

Of course keeping a Food Diary only works when you are honest and record everything you eat. So you need to carry it with you at all times.

So their advice is pretty much: vigilant self-monitoring of what you eat; cook all your own food; and eat regular meals. That's good advice, but I need to get back to why counting calories and cutting down on calorie intake are not the same thing.

When you count calories you have a daily limit so you have to monitor absolutely everything you eat. You need to obsess over food labels. You need to engage in a constant battle with yourself over whether or not to have something delicious, that you really fancy, but which is high in calories, or lots and lots of much lower calorie stuff. Hunger is a frequent accompaniment to this process, along with a perpetual thinking about food and the next meal. Willpower, that is mental force, is what is essential to succeed and willpower never works when you are tired, fed-up, emotionally exhausted, or just plain feeling sorry for yourself. So this method is bound to fail - or at least take very much longer to attain the target weight. Around half of people give up on their diet in less than 12 months.

"You can initially lose 5 to 10% of your weight on any number of diets, but then the weight comes back."

Traci Mann, Psychologist, University of California, Los Angeles

Cutting down on calories is very different. You get to enjoy whatever you fancy, but that's not a recipe for crazy eating, nor a suggestion that you can binge constantly and lose weight. It's a suggestion that shifts the focus away from food so the obsessive thoughts and cravings have no reason to be there.

It's a way to lose weight and enjoy life at the same time. I mean, if you can have what you want how can you crave it? Knowing you can have it actually reduces the desire for it, so although you still have it, you eat less of it.

Michael Hadfield, author of 'How to Lose Weight Easily', has been helping people to lose weight for around 14 years. If you'd like a free food diary template then visit

Controversial Fat Loss Topic: Lose Body Fat Quickly Long Term Vs Short Term

Keep Weight Off

For many years the public, through articles, misinformation and even outright propaganda, have been led to believe that aerobic exercise is the only way to 'lose' weight and to keep it off. I'm here to tell you that this statement is false, and that if you truly want to lose fat and keep it off the best thing you can do is weight or resistance training with a little cardio thrown in for good measure.

Aerobic Exercise Fact

The simple fact is that aerobic exercise burns only a very small amount of calories and, for most people, alone it's an ineffective way to lose body fat. In fact, heavy aerobic exercise increases your chance of burning muscle, not fat, and that effect is further heightened when you couple it with a reduced calorie diet.

You see, when you perform aerobic exercises your body uses both fat and carbohydrates. When you increase the aerobics your body actually will burn more carbs and less fat. Do this long enough and your body will actually start making carbs from protein, a process called catabolism that will cause a large loss of muscle mass but no loss of fat!

Benefit of Muscle Mass

Before you start arguing that this would be a good thing let me remind you that if you lose too much muscle you also lose your ability to burn calories. When you have less muscle mass you burn less calories, it's that simple.

Best Prescription for Fat Loss

In simple terms, the best prescription for anyone wanting to lose weight permanently and keep it off over the long run is weight or resistance training coupled with some aerobics.

Control Frequency of Fatloss

You see, building muscle is an essential part of controlling body fat, and if you want to lose body fat and keep it off muscle building exercises such as resistance training and weight training are the way to do it. The more muscle your body has the more of a fat burning machine your body will be. Even if you eat more you will still stay lean and mean if your body has enough muscles to burn off the extra fat.

Concluding Remark!

In conclusion, for all of the people that need to hear it one more time, building muscle is the most important factor in getting and staying lean in the short and long term.

Diuretics and Smart Sugars

Consequences of diuretic drugs can be serious including chronic dehydration and the loss of vitamins, potassium, and other minerals that can shut down your body.

Certain foods such as salt and bad sugars cause the body to retain too much fluid. These may lead to bloating and weight gain. Inadequate protein in the diet may trigger fluid retention. Lack of B-vitamins and amino acids can also cause an accumulation of excess fluids.

Three types of diuretic pills are often prescribed for edema, high blood pressure, heart disease, PMS, bloating, and over weight: thiazide, loop, and potassium-sparing. Each works differently, has different side effects and precautions.

Thiazides deplete the human body of potassium and magnesium causing the heart to become electrically unstable and may create or worsen insulin resistance by increasing triglycerides and LDL while reducing HDL (the "good" cholesterol). Thiazides have long been known to increase uric acid which can trigger arthritis. Loop diuretic drugs cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and other signs of too much potassium loss. The problems with the potassium-sparing drugs result from too much potassium too quickly.

Let us look to real food technology to help address the diuretic challenges instead of diuretic pills. Moderation is the key to health, especially in the case of natural diuretics. Natural diuretics can aid in the removal of excess fluids from the body while improving overall health. Natural diuretic foods or herbs help reduce water retention for removal of fluids and toxins from the body. Essential minerals must be supplemented to prevent electrolyte deficiency.

Even though cranberry juice is an excellent natural diuretic, store bought cranberry juice is sweetened with high glycemic sugars or HFCS. Purchase the cranberry concentrate without sugars in powder or highly concentrated liquid at your local health food store or online. Sweetening the cranberry concentrate with Trehalose makes for a deliciously healthful drink. Green tea is another diuretic drink that has been in use for centuries in China. However, the main functional phytochemicals in green tea quickly dissipate unless they are stabilized. Dandelion tea is often used as a natural diuretic. Dandelion leaf tea or root tea aids in detoxification and has a beneficial effect on those suffering from urinary tract infections.

Natural diuretics are best when systematically incorporated into our food instead of as a massive therapeutic attack on the problem. The herb, nettle, is reported to have natural diuretic properties that facilitate good cleansing. Fennel has carminative (that relieves gas) and diuretic properties and is frequently used in seasoning food. Watermelons and cucumbers help increase urination and better flushing out of toxins. My parents served watermelon seed tea as a healthful drink. Cucumbers are rich in sulfur and silicon that stimulate the kidneys into better removal of uric acid. Watercress and artichokes are also natural diuretic foods.

Asparagus contains asparigine, an alkaloid amino acid, that boosts kidney performance which helps remove waste from the body and is required by the nervous system to maintain equilibrium. (Alkaloid is normally 7

Weight Loss Drinks: Losing Pounds on a Liquid Diet

ByAaliyah Arthur

As much as that book you just read, or that doctor you just talked to, or that video you just watched may want you to believe it, there is no one right way to drop pounds. If there were, there would be no market for endless programs and plans. Take one look at any bookstore's self-help section, and you'll see the market is saturated. The truth is that there are numerous approaches to getting in shape. One such way is the use of weight loss drinks, either as a supplement or in conjunction with a full liquid diet. These plans often promote very quick results, but that doesn't mean they are the right choice for you. Here is the information you need about doing away with food altogether.

What They Are

If you go on a true liquid diet, you will be consuming weight loss drinks and nothing else. This isn't to be confused with the popular programs that promote drinking a shake to replace a couple of meals, while augmenting the program with snacks and a balanced dinner. Though those diets can be effective as well, they aren't true liquid diets. In some liquid diet plans, no special beverages are required. Participants simply drink fruit juice and similar options. Most programs, however, recommend special weight loss drinks in order to promote fullness and balanced nutrients.

If you have an iron will, there's no question that liquid diets can be very effective. Of course, if you had an iron will, chances are you wouldn't be looking for ways to lose weight. This is the failure of many diet plans, and those using weight loss drinks are no exception. This is why doing a liquid diet halfway (substituting a couple of meals and then having a normal dinner) is often recommended to those who want a plan they can stick with. Some have pointed out the dangers of slowing your metabolism with ultra-low-calorie plans such as these as well, but it is suffice to say that these risks are considerably overstated.

Ideally, a liquid diet should be done under the supervision of a qualified doctor. Of course, this isn't going to be the case 90% of the time, so you have to make your own determinations. The important thing is to make sure that the weight loss drinks you're consuming have enough nutrients to make up for the food you're skipping. As long as you meet these nutrient requirements (and aren't consuming so few calories that you can't function), the diet should be safe.

Weight Loss Equals Diet and Exercise

A person's weight is rather like a balancing act and part of the equation is calories. Diets that are fads might promise that counting carbs or eating a ton of grapefruit is guaranteed to make the pounds just melt away. Unfortunately, when it comes to weight loss, it is calories that need counting. Losing weight comes down to using more calories than you eat. You may do that by reducing calories consumed and increasing exercise or physical activity.

The Basics

Reducing extra calories and more exercise is the first basic of losing weight and once a person understands that, they are ready to set a goal and make a plan for getting to that goal. But keep in mind you do not have to do it by yourself. Speak with your physician, family and friends for support. Be smart: expect minor setbacks and know how you will handle situations that test your resolve.

If you are a person who has severe health problems because of your weight, your physician might propose surgery for weight-loss or medications. In this case, you and your physician will need to discuss in-depth benefits and the likely risks.

Do not forget what the bottom line is. The key to success is a commitment to making changes that are permanent in exercise habits and diet.

Diet Plan

There are certainly no shortages of diet plans - there are hundreds on the internet and others in books. All the latest "fad" and best diet plans are available. But - when do you know that a diet plan is the one that fits your lifestyle and needs? Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

Is there a variety of foods from all of the major groups of food such as fruits, vegetables, grains, lean protein, nuts and seeds as well as dairy products that are low-fat?

Does it include foods that you like?

Are the foods easy to find at any grocery store?

Is regular physical exercise part of this plan?

If the answer to these questions or any one of these questions is no, keep looking for another diet plan.

Exercise and Diet

Remember that the path to success in losing weight is by forming a diet that is healthy and by exercising. Now, you might not like these words - exercise and diet. But don't get hung up on them. Exercise just means becoming more active and diet just means eating healthy, low-calorie meals.

Most people make the mistake of just focusing on the diet and forget about the exercise but being active is a vital part of any weight-loss program. When you are active, the body uses calories to work and this helps to burn the calories that you have eaten.

Shopping, cleaning the kitchen, gardening and mowing are all forms of physical activity. But the exercise for weight loss is a repetitive and structured form of physical activity that is done regularly. You need to exercise regularly, so set a goal as a minimum 150 minutes per week of physical activity or 75 minutes per week of energetic activity - spread through the week.

Other Methods

Diet pills, surgery for losing weight and other methods should only be used when the diet and exercise have failed. But first for weight loss you should make a good faith effort of diet and exercise.

Losing weight is a balance between the amount of calories you eat as well as exercise to burn calories. Your diet will fail if both of these are not done. Weight loss, consists of both.

1. Cellulite is actually a skin condition that appears as lumps or bumps on the surface of the skin, usually seen on the stomach, thighs, and buttocks.

2. It is often referred to as "cottage cheese" or "the orange peel syndrome" due to its lumpy appearance.

3. This skin condition develops when the connective tissue starts to weigh down and trap fat deposits causing some of the areas to appear lumpier and bulgier.

4. While fat is the body's natural protection as it acts as insulator and cushion for the muscles, internal organs, and nerves, large deposits in the body often leads to cellulite formation.

5. About 90% women will be affected at the onset of puberty.

6. There are men who develop lumps on the thighs and stomach but are less noticeable.

7. Having this condition doesn't necessarily mean one is overweight. Thin individuals develop it, too. However, the bulges and lumps are more visible in overweight people so the condition is often associated with being overweight.

8. Even doctors cannot pinpoint the real causes of the formation of large lumps on the skin's surface.

9. Improper diet is often associated with it. People who have more fat and carbohydrates in their diet are prone to develop this condition.

10. A lack of exercise and physical activities are associated with this medical condition as well.

11. Dehydration is also considered to be one of the causes. Hence drinking plenty of water is still one of the best thing that you can do to your body.

12. Genetics is also said to be one of the culprits. Your body's genetic make up will determine how slow or how fast your metabolism is going to be. A sluggish metabolism results in the slower fat burning action of the body, thus resulting in larger amounts of fat being deposited instead of being converted as energy.

13. Age is also directly responsible in the development of the lumps. As an individual advances in age, the skin eventually loses its natural elasticity and the thickness of the connective tissues making lumps more visible.

14. Hormonal imbalance is also considered to cause its development. Proof of this is that women experience major hormonal changes at puberty, hence this medical condition is often related to puberty.

15. Blood circulation is an integral part for the prevention of the condition. If you wear tight clothes often, blood flow will be restricted hence causing the development of cellulite.

Bath Recipes to Remove Cellulite

When you see your skin having a cottage cheese or orange peel look, this is called cellulite and it is caused by fat pockets underneath the skin. This happens due to genetics, absence of exercise, a poor diet, caffeine and too much alcohol intake. This skin condition does not have a cure but its appearance can be lessened. One effective way is by using certain bath recipes.

One good recipe to remove the dimpling appearance of this skin condition is a milk bath which requires milk and cinnamon oil. Pour 5 drops of the oil into half a glass of warm milk and add this to a tub filled with very hot water. Sit inside the tub for 5 minutes.

Another bath recipe is an essential oil treatment which should be initially massaged onto the parts of the body that are dimpled using a soft brush or body scrub. These essential oils can be that of juniper, rosemary, grapefruit or orange. Fill the tub with warm water and pour three drops of either grapefruit or orange oil and the oils of juniper and rosemary. Get inside the tub for a good bath that would help reduce these fatty deposits under the skin.

A sea bath recipe is also effective and can be made using algae mineral bath packet. This can be bought in health stores or spa shops. This will lessen the appearance of wrinkled skin due to its vitamin E content and essential amino acids that destroys body fat. Pour this mix on a hot bath and follow the instructions. Get inside the tub and stay there fore half an hour to help remove cellulite.

Another effective bath recipe is fresh seaweed. This can be taken from ocean water and not on the beach. Place this inside your tub filled with warm water and then take a nice dip. This will also get rid of harmful toxins from the body. After your bath, take a shower so as to get rid of the toxins that may have come out of your body. This shall help eliminate the appearance of wrinkled skin. If you are allergic to seaweed, this bath recipe is not for you. Remember to take away the seaweeds when you drain the tub so as to avoid clogging.

You can also get a few drops of the extract of hawthorne berry and some bath salts and add them to warm water in your bathtub. Relax while in your tub and let hawthorne berry improve blood circulation. A good blood flow will aid in removing fatty deposits from under the skin and take them to the bloodstream to be flushed away from the body.

Foods to Eliminate Cellulite

When one sees the skin on some parts of her body becoming dimpled, this is called cellulite. This is a group of fatty deposits that appear in the thighs, buttocks, tummy, legs and hips. These fatty deposits are usually found in women more than men. It can be difficult to take away this orange peel appearance in the body but there are foods that can eliminate it. Foods that can reduce it include fruits and vegetables.

There are fruits that can eliminate these fatty deposits underneath the skin's surface. These include papayas, blueberries, cherries and strawberries as they contain antioxidants that help eliminate toxins from the body. Grapefruits and oranges have lecithin that helps toughen the skin. Watermelon helps encourage skin elasticity, creates skin collagen and stops the body in retaining liquids. Mangoes, apples and gooseberries also ward off excess weight that help promote fatty acids.

Vegetables also help minimize the dimpling of the skin and maintain a suitable weight. Such vegetables include cauliflower and tomatoes and all these prevent the skin from weakening. There are also vegetables that prevent liquid retention in the body such as celery, asparagus and cucumber. Other veggies safeguard tissues from getting inflamed such as peas and broccoli. Other vegetables that fight lumping of the skin are carrots and black pepper.

A weak layer of fat cell also causes cellulite thus it is important to strengthen this layer. To do this, it is vital to take in food with omega-3 fatty acids and unsaturated fats as they repair damaged fat cells and make the layer elastic. These fats also provide a shield in the middle of the layer and toxins.

There are also foods that help fight these fatty acids from getting deposited under the skin. These include nuts such as almonds and walnuts, avocados, seeds such as flax seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and hemp seeds and coconut oil. The fats that are found in whole foods that are unprocessed and raw are healthier than the fats found in processed food. Getting much of the latter shall develop that cottage cheese look on one's skin.

Foods rich in antioxidants are advantageous as they help the skin from lumping by fighting toxins that enter the body. These antioxidants are chemicals that ward off external oxygen molecules entering the body which are also called free radicals. These molecules come from air pollution and foods that are processed entering the body. They destroy healthy fat cells by taking the oxygen molecules in them. When one takes in antioxidants, these free radicals will be eliminated.

Remove Cellulite With Laser Treatments

Eighty percent of American women suffer from the problem of cellulite. It can happen to anyone of any age, race and gender. It is not harmful to the health but very unsightly to the body. There are home remedies and creams and lotions to treat this condition but one of the treatments that can produce fast results are laser treatments.

This skin condition is due to too much fatty deposits or fat cells underneath. It can be seen on the lower arms, buttocks, abdomen and thighs. Although it can be genetic, it can also be due to a poor diet, aging and lack of exercise. A laser treatment is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure ideal for those who do not want to go under the knife to get rid of such fatty deposits. It targets problem areas with laser to contour the body and make it finer and smoother.

Laser treatments will aim on the fat cells below the skin's surface using heat. This will encourage good blood flow thus oxygen will be taken to the body and will aid in increasing fat cell metabolism. Metabolizing fat will lead to the formation of new collagen which will make the skin firm and more elastic.

There are benefits to using laser treatment to remove cellulite. Because of good blood circulation, this will also lessen muscle pains. It will also make the skin firmer and tighten again which may have become loose due to age. The body will become contoured with this treatment thus people will think they lost so much weight. The procedure is also painless as fatty deposits are melted away. Recovery time is short and follows the treatment.

Laser treatment is expensive as it costs around a hundred bucks to five hundred dollars a session. To produce good results, more than one session is required. Many people need to go through ten sessions. When the person goes back to an unhealthy lifestyle after treatment, the fatty deposits will return.

Laser treatment is still a new field which has not achieved maximum development yet. There is still no published results yet of its complications and side effects. Prior to trying this treatment, one should undergo the home remedies first and ask a doctor about it. It is also best if the patient continues having a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a healthy diet followed by the use of anti-cellulite creams.

Removing Cellulite With Herbs

When fatty deposits accumulate beneath the skin and cause dimpling or lumps, this is called cellulite. Between the two sexes, it is women who mostly acquire such fatty deposits usually on their butts, tummy, hips, arms and thighs. This builds up over time especially when the connective tissues under the skin decline. When blood is not properly circulated in these areas, these fatty tissues get destroyed. The good news is aside from the expensive creams and surgical treatments for this condition, there are also herbs that are effective in removing the wrinkled look of the skin.

Herbal treatments vary and these include moisturizing lotions and creams, body wraps, essential oils and herbal supplements. When one uses a combination of these treatments regularly, the dimpling of the skin is reduced.

There are also herbs that can eliminate these fatty deposits through reduction of calories and fats taken in. These include goat's rue and gymnema that balance glucose and enhance sensitivity to insulin. These herbs along with green tea, Korean ginseng and coleus all help control the weight thus reducing fat in the body.

To remove cellulite from the body, it is important to have a healthy blood circulation. When there is a good flow of blood, the tissues found below the skin pushes fat cells to the blood stream thus they will not accumulate under the skin. This will then minimize the dimpling and orange peel appearance of the skin. The herbs that promote good blood circulation are ginger, gotu, gingko biloba, sweet violet, horse chestnut and cayenne. These herbs can be brewed into tea and their supplement forms can be purchased in health shops.

If the skin has enough collagen, its dimpling or wrinkled appearance would be avoided because collagen gives tenacity, durability, elasticity and strength. When the skin has enough collagen, fatty deposits under the skin would not help form a wrinkled look on the skin. It is important to have a good supply of collagen under the skin for it to be protected and maintain its youth. There are herbs that heighten the production of collagen. These include gotu kola and vitamin C filled herbs such as parsley, watercress, acerola, rosehips and elderberries.

There are also herbs that can help solve this condition by applying them on the skin and not taking them out. These include horsetail, calendula and witch hazel. Such herbs also improve the skin elasticity and tighten the skin. This would then minimize the buildup of fatty deposits. These herbs should be covered inside boiling water and once it has cooled down, it should be added to a hot bath or applied on the skin.

Another remedy is getting a soft brush and pressing it on the portions of the skin that has a dimpling appearance. The brush should be moved in circular movements to encourage a good blood flow to these areas to remove the fatty deposits in them. Another way to massage the lumpy areas is with an electronic massager for 10 minutes every day.

One should also drink water or any of her favorite drinks that are of room temperature and not chilled. An icy drink will constrict the tummy and esophagus obstructing the gush of digestive enzymes in the tummy.

Other things to remember in reducing the cottage cheese look of the skin is to lessen calorie intake everyday and replace this with vegetables and fruits as they contain less calories. It is also important to exercise regularly and have a healthy diet daily. Drinking enough amount of water is encouraged because too much water retention can make the skin puff up thus causing skin dimpling. Salty foods should be avoided as this causes fluid retention. Eating foods that are filled with antioxidants is encouraged.

What Exactly Causes Cellulite?

When the skin on the tummy, upper thighs and buttocks are dimpled and looks like the peel of an orange or cottage cheese, these patches are called cellulite. These are fatty deposits that generally appear on women but some men also have them. The reason for such wrinkles or dimples is when the fat cells get into the collagen fibers and layers of skin. There are many possible causes of cellulite which this article shall focus on.

One of the causes of these fatty deposits is poor blood flow that weakens or starves the tissues. When this happens, the area of these tissues may develop a dimpled appearance.
It is thus important to improve the blood flow to this area so as to remove this orange peel look.

Another primary cause of cellulite is diet. A study shows that when the body lacks green leafy vegetables and water, this will make the skin have the dimpled look. The intake of salt and carbohydrates inflame fat cells which cause such fatty deposits.

Genetics is also a cause of fatty deposits. Many people go through a diet and regular exercise but they still achieve dimpled skin in their bodies. If this runs in the family, the members are prone to having it as well.

Another cause of these fatty deposits is the lack of regular physical workouts. When one has a passive and sedentary lifestyle, he is prone to accumulate fats and gain weight. There will be pockets of these fatty deposits that would form in the different parts of the body. It is thus important to exercise often to have a shapely physique.

Another cause of this dimpling is linked to smoking. Smoking welcomes toxins into the body that would worsen the dimpled appearance. People who already have such patches of these fatty deposits should refrain from smoking. Smoking also severely affects the health of a person.

There are also foods that cause this orange peel look because of the damage they inflict on cells and the oxidation and dehydration they cause. These are foods filled with trans fat and they change the structure of healthy cells thus damaging and mutating fat layer cells. Other foods to avoid are those that have hydrogenated ingredients. Foods with sodium or salt should be shunned away from such as those served in fast foods.

In the end, know that there are different cellulite treatments that can be tried to get rid of this unsightly appearance of the skin.

Getting Rid of Abdominal Fat

ByRussell T. Williams

: Learn What You Must Do, in Order to Succeed in Fat Loss!

is a massive goal for many people and millions of people are trying to find a way to make it happen. And despite all the diets and exercise programs that can be found online, fat loss has not become any easier. It could be said that it is becoming harder and harder for men, women and also children to get rid of abdominal fat. In this article I will explain why people find it so hard to succeed in and what you need to do to succeed.

For the ordinary person, trying to get rid of fat, it is a big challenge to understand nutrition and exercise. If you haven

When Dining Out, Is Ignorance Bliss - Or Bad For Your Health?

I had lunch this week in a well-known restaurant chain where I hadn't dined in some time. I noticed that they now list the calorie content of every item on their menu. I was shocked to learn that what would have likely been my first selection had between 1,200-1,900 calories - a full day's worth of calories for some!

My initial reaction was disappointment, feeling that I would have rather just selected what seemed most appealing and enjoyed my meal without having to think about the impact it would have on my metabolism and waistline. I momentarily longed for a bygone decade when I would have just ordered whatever I wanted on a menu without a second thought about calories, fat and sugar. But were those really the "good old days" or was my ignorance potentially leading me down a path to an early demise or a life of chronic illness?

Once I snapped back to the present, I was grateful and humbled by the information presented to me. To think that, with an appetizer, drink, entrée and dessert I could feasibly have consumed almost a week's worth of calories without realizing it! It was a very sobering experience. It is interesting to note that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been directed to create a new national standard for menu labeling for fast food and certain restaurant chains (those with 20 or more locations). This is a provision of the Affordable Care Act.

I am conscientious about what I eat and am certainly well aware of good nutrition basics. But when eating out, one really has no idea exactly how the food is prepared, what has been added or in what quantity, how big the portion size is, and so on. In my case, the listing of calories next to each entrée helped me to make a healthier choice for myself. I scanned the menu for items under 500 calories (this was for lunch) and was able to find something appealing. Of course, calories alone are not the only consideration in making healthy food choices as some of us want/need to restrict sodium, salt and saturated fat too. One of the "under 500" menu items I saw consisted of all high fat foods so I passed on that one. You also have to use common sense.

I'm sure some people would just as soon not know any of this information and will likely ignore or disregard it. And even with the calories listed on a menu, I know I will occasionally order something that I really love with a higher calorie or fat content, too. But at least I'll be clear on where I stand and know how I have to eat for the rest of the day or week to compensate for it. I do love to eat well, but also want to stay fit, healthy, agile, and keep my weight under control.

So bring it on, restaurants of America. The sooner every restaurant lists nutritional information, the sooner we can all get a better handle on what we're eating and be able to make better, healthier meal choices.

The Best Way to Get Rid of Excess Belly Fat

One of the biggest problems for many people is the roll of fat that they carry around their waist. Actually, in many cases it's much more than just a roll. It's unsightly and most people hate it and wish they could get rid of it. But ugliness isn't the real problem. The real problem is that it is very unhealthy and can lead to a number of diseases and even early death.

Let me begin by pointing out that all fat is not the same. There are two types referred to as subcutaneous and visceral. The subcutaneous variety is likely the one that you complain about the most, but it's not the dangerous kind. When you reach down to your waist and grab a roll of fat you're grabbing the subcutaneous kind, and although it's not a nice sight, it's unlikely to kill you. It's the fat you can't see - the visceral fat - that does the damage, and it's buried deep in your abdomen, inside your rib cage. It's the fat surrounding your vital organs including your heart. And it does add to your pot-belly; in fact, it's the main fat that creates it, but you can't see or feel it directly so many people don't worry about it.

If it just sat there it wouldn't be too much of a problem, but it doesn't. Visceral fat isn't inert; it is, in fact, biologically active, so it acts like an "organ" - one of the larger ones in your body, and like other organs it secretes various substances. Some of these are leptin (appetite suppressor) and cytokines such as interleukin that can produce chronic inflammation, and it can trigger cortisol which also produces inflammation.

Reason Why Visceral fat is So Bad

Visceral fat is particularly bad because it leads directly to high LDL cholesterol and low HDL - something you don't want. It is, in fact, part of what is called the metabolic syndrome -- a major risk for heart disease and stroke. The metabolic syndrome is a combination of the following:

Insulin resistanceHigh blood glucoseExcess visceral fatPoor cholesterol levelsHigh blood pressure

Insulin resistance occurs when your muscles and liver don't respond correctly to normal levels of insulin, which forces your pancreas to create too much. As a result, the glucose (sugar) levels in your body rise to levels higher than they should be.

In addition to being part of the metabolic syndrome, visceral fat can also cause:

Diabetes IICancerDementia

So it's obviously something you want to get rid of, not just because it doesn't look good.

How Do We Know When We Have Too Much Visceral Fat?

The easiest way is to measure the size of your stomach, or more exactly, the size of your waist. For years the standard measurement was the waist-to-hip ratio. For it you use a flexible tape and measure the distance around the narrowest part of your waist (above your hips). The ratio (waist/hips) should not be over 0.8 for women, and 0.9 for men.

To some degree this measurement has been superseded in recent years. Doctors and therapists have found that a simple measurement of the waist is sufficient. Their guidelines are a waist of less than 35 inches for women and less than 40 inches for men.

What is the Best Way to Get Rid of This Fat

If you've tried to lose weight, you know it can be frustrating. Your body always seems to fight back. First of all, it puts almost all excess weight around your waist. When you gain weight, it's the first place you notice a difference, but when you take weight off, it doesn't come off the waist first; in fact, it comes off here last. In other words, your body gives "orders" as to what it wants to do, and there's not too much you can do about it. This also shows up when you try to "fast" or go on a very low calorie diet to lose a lot of weight rapidly. It won't work: your body will rebel and cut back on your metabolism so you won't end up losing nearly as much as you expected. And the reason it can do this is that it is an organ, not just a bunch of fat cells.

So let's look at the best way to lose the fat. Over the years many "gimmicks" have been put forward for losing belly fat: belts, gliders of various sorts, balls and so on. Some of them are helpful to a small degree, but when it comes down to it the best way to lose fat is still: exercise and diet. There's no getting around it.

Let me say right off, though, that "spot reducing" doesn't work. And this means that the two best known exercises for reducing your waist, namely, sit-ups and crunches, are not of much help. They'll help strengthen your abs but they won't do much for the fat on top of them (or under them), and this is the fat you want to get rid of.

As you likely know, there are two different types of exercise: aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercise uses oxygen; its main function, in fact, is getting oxygen to your muscles. It includes: getting blood to your muscles, extracting oxygen from blood, and getting oxygen into the muscle tissue. Typical aerobic exercises are walking (one of the best), jogging, cycling and swimming. Aerobic exercises increase your heart beat, and it's important to get it in the proper range if you want to lose fat. So aerobic exercises are the key.

But anaerobic exercises are also important. The major anaerobic exercise is weight lifting. Weight lifting strengthens and enlarges your muscles and this is critical; it increases your metabolism which will help burn your calories faster. Indeed, after a good exercise session that includes weight lifting you will continue to burn calories at an increased rate for hours.

For weight training you should concentrate on the large muscles (and not you abs). They are: thighs, chest, buttocks, back, arm muscles. Some good exercises are: bench presses, squats, dumbbell presses and flyes.

Two Critical Things that Maximize Fat Loss

When you do your exercises makes a big difference. You want to maximize the fat loss for a given effort. To this end it's important to remember that the carbohydrates and some of the fat you eat is turned into glucose in your body. It's what gives you energy to do your daily activities. Some of this food is also turned into glycogen, which is stored sugar that can be used later when needed. What you want is to catch your body when it is low on glucose and glycogen. When this happens it will reach deeper into your body for its fat reserves and use them for energy.

So, when is glycogen the lowest? It is being used up all day and night and since you don't eat anything overnight it's at its lowest level first thing in the morning. So do your aerobic exercises when you first get up. Another time when they are relatively low is after you have done your anaerobic exercises (weight training). So concentrate on these two times.

Another thing that helps to maximize fat loss is "interval training". It's used extensively by runners, and it is the quickest and best way to get into shape fast. Furthermore, it's the best way to lose fat fast. The idea is to vary your pace when you are walking or running. In other words, start out slow, then gradually increase to as fast as you can go, then slow down, and after a few minutes increase again. Go through this cycle several times.

What to Eat

Exercise is, of course, only part of what you need to do to lose fat. You also have to eat properly. At the top of your list should be complex carbohydrates, namely, vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes. Some of the best veggies are: broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, cabbage and beats. Some of the best fruits are: citrus, grapes, bananas, peaches, pears, plums and apricots. Berries such as blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are also great. Finally, whole grains, seeds and nuts are helpful. Some of the best of them are: oatmeal, whole wheat cereal, flax and pumpkin seeds and almonds and walnuts.

At the same time it is, of course, important to avoid foods that will add fat: cookies, cake, pie, sweets, any processed food, fried foods, and anything containing saturated or trans fats. Also avoid soda pop.

And last but not least, drink lots of water - at least 8 glasses a day.

Weight Loss Strategies - 3 Simple, Quick and Effective Tips

With our busy lives, family responsibilities and career commitments, it can be hard to find the time to lose weight. Sometimes it's necessary to prioritize between exercise and nutrition. Although exercise has many benefits that are necessary for optimal functioning, eating healthily should remain a top priority in our weight loss strategies despite our hectic lives.

Here are 3 quick and easy fat loss tips to help you. They are very effective and the results will show the power of a healthy diet plan in helping you to achieve your weight loss goals.

1. Avoid eating these 4 white culprits

To increase your weight loss results and energy simply eliminate dairy and white flour, sugar and salt from your diet. Replace white flour with coconut flour, refined salts with sea salt and eliminate white sugar. You might be wondering if it's alright to remove dairy from your diet when it's such a great source of calcium. The truth is there are other rich sources of calcium such as leafy greens. Dairy can cause a variety of health problems including inflammation of joints, problem digesting food, clogged arteries, and weight gain.

By eliminating these 4 foods, you are well on your way to achieving your weight loss goals.

2. Eliminate processed foods

Fueling your body with nutritious foods and eliminating processed foods is one of the best strategies to lose weight. In our busy day, we tend to grab food on the run; however, many convenient foods are loaded with chemicals, lack the nutrients necessary for optimal functioning and cause weight loss failure.

As part of an effective plan to lose weight, try to avoid packaged foods. Always read your labels and avoid manufactured ingredients. As a general rule, only eat food with ingredients you can pronounce and those that have no more than 3 natural ingredients. In fact the most nutritious foods are not packaged or labelled. This will help you avoid unwanted toxins in your body.

3. Make water your only beverage of choice

Give up all sugars and artificial sweeteners in favor of half your body's weight in ounces of water. This means that if you weigh 160 pounds, you should be consuming a minimum of 80 ounces of water per day. Often times we will give up refined sugar but might replace the sugar with calorie free alternatives. These may seem like good replacements for sugar but they are loaded with toxins that can actually cause you to get fat. They also leave you craving more and more sugar. So what are healthier alternatives to include in your weight loss strategy? Drink lots of water and the occasional unsweetened tea or black coffee. For a refreshing taste, squeeze fresh lemon or lime into your water or chilled herbal teas. Your body will be hydrated and your waistline will love you.

These 3 simple weight loss strategies will not only help you to slim down but will contribute to better overall health. You only have one body, treat it with care and only eat the best foods as part of a good weight loss plan.

Losing Weight Safely Fast: The Body Wrap Option

We live in an age of fast foods and automated tasks; we consume more calories in a day compared to what we spent on average. Gaining weight is a problem that everyone faces today, the ladies in particular. Almost everybody wants to shed some weight, look slimmer and be fitter. Women and men alike try to improve their appearance through physical exercises and various other physical activities. Some people choose to stick to a very strict diet in attempt to lose weight. Although all these methods are effective, there are always better methods of losing weight without torturing oneself, interfering with the daily work life or engaging in unorthodox weight loss techniques.

One of the best ways to lose weight today is through the use of body wraps. As technology changes, experts are coming up with safer, faster and more effective ways to lose weight and this is one of them. Although there are many debates on the use of body wraps, it is upon you to find out where the truth lies - whether body wraps really work or they are a fad. If they actually work, which I assure you they do, you should also determine whether they are the best alternative for you. You could always start running a mile each morning and lose like five pounds in two months or adopt a new dietary plan that will leave you weak and devastated each day at work or you could go with the better option that has no side effects whatsoever.

Body wraps are now used by so many people, mostly those who have tried almost everything else - exercises, dieting, pills or prayer. There are different types of body wraps - the three common types are herbal, detoxing clays and minerals. They all involve wrapping the ingredients on a cloth or other material on the area to burn fat or from head to toe.

Body wraps are very affordable and effective but it all depends on the choice one goes with - there are some that have to be applied at a spa or parlor and some that you can buy and use on your own at home. One of the best I can advocate for though are body wraps that use special elastic cotton bandages soaked in a clay, toxin-pulling ingredients, salt, oil, minerals and herbal fat cell ingredients. The ingredients help to burn the fats while the compression bandages will reshape the skin, acting as a thermal blanket to promote perspiration by retaining heat.

Are you looking to lose weight fast and safely? Is everything else not working for you? Body Wraps are a modern solution. They have been proven to work - find more information on how you can lose weight at home by sparing only 37 minutes of your time at

Glycemic Index Chart: Do You Understand It?

ByBob Trovan

If you are new to the glycemic index chart then the whole concept may seem both a little daunting and somewhat confusing when you initially start to look at it. The whole reason for the glycemic index chart was that so both the patient and the doctor would have some common ground when discussing health issues and in particular relevant diets. Once you have gained an understanding of exactly what the number stands for within the index and exactly how it works it is pretty simple, so there is really no need to have any concerns. It should on the other hand be treated as both a powerful and very useful tool which can seriously help you improve your life and turn to a far more healthier lifestyle.

Overall, the time that it realistically takes to learn the glycemic index chart is very minimal, and the time spent learning it is very beneficial and will make everything else associated seem so simple. Essentially when you look at the index chart you will see that it contains numbers as well as a variety of foods - with each food having its own corresponding number. The number range is from zero to a hundred and give exact pointers as to when your blood sugar level will rise and which food is actually causing this to happen.

As an example if say a food has a rating on the index of 90 or above then this causes a rapid blood sugar rise where as a lower number in the index will obviously cause a slower rate of rise which is beneficial to diabetics etc. That said you fill find that the chart does not go into exact detail such as listing individual foods but instead lists them in various food groups. Dependant on the numbers assigned will also determine whether that food group is based as a low, medium or high risk on the glycemic index chart. It is however worth noting that intake of protein can affect the outcome of the results on the glycemic index chart - simply because protein can help to slow down digestion.

Although the glycemic index chart is primarily seen as a tool specifically for use by diabetics there are other uses such as by athletes for example who can use it to plan their energy levels and when they need them to be higher throughout the day.

You Don't Have To Be Thin To Enjoy Life

ByAndrea Valdez

Today was my monthly weigh in appointment with my counselor, Kimberly, at the weight loss clinic. According to their scale, I'm down 2.8 pounds for the past month, which is great considering I gained 8 pounds on my vacation a few weeks ago. I went down almost a whole percentage in body fat (equaling a loss of 3.5 lbs of fat).

Kimberly and I talked about what I could have done different on my cruise to do "damage control", as she called it. She said that if you feel like having a burger, have one without the bun or half the bun. If you want dessert, have a few bites instead of a whole piece. These are methods I've known about for years and years, but rarely do I put them into action. She's right though, if I had thought more about what I was doing, I could have maybe gained only 4 pounds instead of 8.

Then I told her about how I was trying to exercise at the track but that I hurt my knee on Monday. She suggested I go walking in a pool. The water is good for resistance and also good for people with knee injuries. I told her I would like to do that, but the only pool I have access to is a public pool and I don't like to go around in a bathing suit in public. She said she understood. Then she really laid it on me:

That is a POWERFUL statement! It really hit home with me because I can count several things that I won't do because I'm fat.

Enjoy swimming at the beach, pools, rivers and lakes. I love, love, love the beach especially. I don't go as often as I'd like because I don't want to wear a bathing suit in public. I'm embarrassed and feel too vulnerable. Usually, when I do go, I just wear jeans or capris and a shirt and stay out of the water. It's easier to avoid here in Oregon than it was in Southern California where I grew up.
Try jogging. This is going to sound weird, but when I run, my butt feels like it's bouncing and not only is it uncomfortable, it's totally embarrassing to me.
Wear clothes that are fitted. I feel like I have to wear my clothes baggy or else people will notice that I'm not all muscle.
Get excited about shopping for clothes. This is self-explanatory I think! You guys know where I'm coming from.
Enjoy myself at amusement parks. When I was at my highest weight all those years ago, I was at Knott's Berry Farm and I went to get on the Dragon Swing and I didn't fit and had to do the walk of shame off the ride. I don't go on rides I'm unsure of now because I never want to experience anything like that again.
Wear shorts and tank tops. Again, the vanity kicks in. I don't ever want to feel like people are staring at me or snickering amongst themselves because of the way I look.

I was telling Kimberly about some of these concerns. Especially about the pool and jogging. She said she believes that not everyone in the world is that critical and judgmental and that it was more likely that I would inspire people because I'm getting healthy and doing activities that are good for my body. And I WANT to inspire people, especially people who are going through the same types of struggles I am.

So I'm vowing to look at myself that way from now on - not as an embarrassment, but as an inspiration. At the very minimum, an inspiration to my husband, my children, my family and my friends.

We also talked about me setting smaller goals for myself. My next goal is 10% of my starting weight. I have about 9 pounds to go.

Kimberly gave me a lot of things to think about today. It's really nothing I haven't heard before, but for some reason, she really got into my head today. I really want her to be proud of me. I hope that when I see her again next month, the results show how hard I've been working.

So if you see me at the pool or on the beach or jogging at the track, don't be surprised, I'm not trying to impress anyone with my looks, just my abilities and perseverance. Don't mind my bouncing butt.:)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend... enjoy it with the ones you love.

Intermittent Fasting: A Way to Lose Weight

ByAnthony Mesa

Health is wealth. It is described as the optimal well-being of an individual whether it is physical or psychological in nature. Staying fit and healthy promotes a positive outlook and maintains a youthful and vibrant disposition. Not only does it preserve youth, it also prolongs life. Now, one of the most innovative ways to keep oneself healthy and fit is through intermittent fasting. If you want to preserve your health, youth and the vitality of your being; then intermittent fasting should be given a try.

Intermittent fasting, as described today, is one of the cheapest fasting diets to lose weight. It doesn't require any other tools such as pills or medicines, nor does it entail any expensive gym equipment. All it simply asks is a strict and stern discipline to fasting. Intermittent fasting, by definition connotes the regulation of food intake by not ingesting anything between major meals. Also, by the word intermittent, it follows that a sequential order of eating pattern must be attained.

There's a presumption among experts that the basis on how intermittent fasting actually works can be explained by reason of anatomy and physiology; or the study of the organ and organ systems in relation to their functions within our bodies. As explained by specialists such as physicians, within our brain stem lies the seat of satiety, hunger and thirst called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is a complex, multifarious organ which actually orders our body when to feel the urge to gobble.

Hence, should there be any desire for man to drink or eat; the hypothalamus is the one responsible for such action. Thus, if left untrained and left to do on its own will, satiety and hunger will increase to huge proportions.

Once this happens, the urge to drink or eat will also be magnified. Of course, there is no danger or risk to eating. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that; however, the quality of the food intake we eat also determines the state of health among individuals. Likewise, if a person continually ingests foods that are not nutritious, say the one we see in fast foods or cafeterias; and done in large amounts, health is affected. Uncontrolled eating can lead to a host of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiac or heart problems and obesity.

The best way to start your fasting is to carefully plan your meals. Intermittent fasting works best if it is done regularly and habitually. This form of fasting diet to lose weight must be done in accordance with the willingness of the participant; and must be disciplined in order to achieve the desired effects. Aside from fasting, if you plan to lose weight, the amount of caloric intake must also be considered. So, aside from carefully planning the intermittent meals, the amount of calories must also be taken into consideration.

Combining the two strategies will not just make you slim; it will help you get the weight you've always wanted. Moreover, training your hypothalamus to eat intermittently will have a huge impact on your urge to eat or drink which would lead to restraining your unhealthy eating habits.

Weight Loss With Body Wraps

Losing weight using herbal body wraps is not a very new concept, it has been a craze for a couple of years now. You are probably wondering if they actually work because we have always been told that there are no easy ways to lose weight - besides the dangerous surgeries and pills. Truth is that body wraps actually work, otherwise how can you explain them being so popular and so many people going for them? Read on to find out just how these wraps work.

How It Works

Body wraps work by enabling various processes on the skin that facilitate better fat metabolism and inch loss without all the side effects or the hard work. Lymphatic drainage is the first process. This is a process that can also be incited through special massages and involves allowing the interstitial fluids or lymph in the fat cells to freely move and transport fatty acids as well as toxins from beneath the skin as wastes. These fluids have harmful impurities that the body has stored from processed foods we eat as well as the air you breathe. When you lose these fluids, you will lose a few pounds in no time.

When Can You Use Body Wraps?

There are various types of body wraps, but the best you can get is one that you can use at home. When choosing the best wrap, go for one that uses all-natural ingredients. This means that the creams and gels applied with the body wrap should be made from all-natural plant extract or mineral ingredients from earth. The use of natural ingredients ensures that there are no undesired effects resulting from the ingredients and the skin will benefit from it too. The best ingredients often have a positive effect on the skin in that it tones the skin and tightens it after the fats are gotten rid of. Body wraps are so effective that you can lose a few pounds within just a few days.

Some people assume that using body wraps is complicated but it is not. You will not need to walk around with them or even go to bed with them - with the right ingredients you need about half an hour a day for a few weeks to get into shape. The ingredients should also detoxify the body at cellular level hence can be used on a specific part of the body.
